On October 6, 2021, champagne corks popped, pool-goers splashed and entertainment soared—all on board Virgin Voyages’ Scarlet Lady. It was finally the day for this innovative new cruise line to debut its first ship to American passengers on a four-day cruise out of Miami, after delaying several times during cruising’s pause. Scarlet Lady is the first of four ships from Virgin Voyages: Valiant Lady is due for her inaugural voyage in March 2022, followed by Resilient Lady in August 2022 and the fourth is yet to be announced.
Cleverly titled the “MerMaiden” voyage, the inaugural cruise promised surprises and delights along the way. Mermaids and mermen mingled and celebrated alongside guests, which Virgin Voyages refers to as Sailors.
As an adults-only cruise line, Virgin Voyages is attracting travelers looking for something a little different on their next voyage. One popular selling point: the inclusion of nearly $600 in value on every cruise—that means tips, WiFi, group fitness classes, all 20 eateries with no cover charge and basic beverages (including soda). And far be it from us to be frivolous, but we simply must mention one of the signature fun aspects of Virgin Voyages: you can order a bottle of champagne to anywhere on the ship with just a shake and a tap of your smartphone. It could be the perfect way to kick off an overdue reunion with friends or an anniversary toast beneath the stars. Dining venues include the first Korean barbecue at sea, an al fresco area featuring Hawaiian poke bowls, an Italian trattoria, a 24/7 diner for whenever you may desire a classic breakfast fix, and an upscale steakhouse.
In its first year, Virgin Voyages will sail to the Caribbean and Mediterranean. They’ve crafted itineraries with some flashy ports, such as an overnight in Ibiza on many of their Mediterranean departures, and a visit to their private Beach Club at Bimini on every Caribbean voyage. The Beach Club at Bimini is considered a signature waterfront experience offering a wide variety of activities, from morning yoga to lounging by the pool in a private cabana to sunset beach bonfires.
There are numerous styles of accommodations, with 86 percent featuring a balcony. More than 90 percent have an ocean view. Tempting in-room features include rainfall showers, ambient mood lighting and smart controls, adjusting automatically with the ship’s geo-navigation system.
With expansive dining options, an indulgent spa, a festival-style lineup of entertainment on board and much more to discover, Virgin Voyages is committed to creating a memorable and fun experience for all.
