Ponant, a world leader in polar expeditions, has raised the bar once again with the introduction of its latest luxe mega-yacht, Le Lapérouse. The first of six new Explorer-class expedition ships, Le Lapérouse is an intimate haven specifically designed for destination-rich itineraries to Iceland and Scandinavia, the Mediterranean, Oceania and Seychelles.
This 184-passenger ship was built for exploration. Outfitted with a reinforced hull—which allows for more in-depth polar explorations—as well as sturdy Zodiacs to whisk you to shore, the world’s most exotic landscapes are easily within reach.
What passengers are most excited about when they sail on Le Lapérouse is the Blue Eye Lounge. A feature that will be on all of Ponant’s future Explorer-class ships, the Blue Eye Lounge is an underwater bar and viewing space that allows you to watch the subaquatic world go by in a relaxing space.
The Blue Eye lounge truly is an ethereal experience. While the ship is sailing, exterior cameras film the mesmerizing sea life and project it in the lounge in real time. Hydrophones capture the rolling hum of whales and witty banter of dolphins, playing their noises through speakers. And when a whale bellows particularly loudly, the furniture actually vibrates!
Guests will also enjoy the Panoramic Lounge, an intimate indoor-outdoor venue with breathtaking views; the main Restaurant, serving outstanding cuisine prepared by French chefs; and the water sports platform, where it’s easy to board a kayak, paddleboard or Zodiac to explore the shore (or relax in a sun lounger while others splash about).
To celebrate the launch of the vessel, Ponant created several new itineraries for Le Lapérouse. These include Seychelles, Maldives & Sri Lanka, an eye-opening 11-day cruise starting from the island of Mahé; Between India and Asia, a 16-day cruise through the Bay of Bengal; and Scattered Islands of the Banda Sea, a 12-day tropical expedition cruise throughout Indonesia.
