Thanks to our world cruise hosts Kevin LaGraff and Susan Atkins for taking us on their journey around the world aboard the Silversea Whisper world cruise!
After 115 days, over five continents, 35 countries and 50 ports it’s time to close the book on this world cruise.
World cruising can spoil you for normal life.
One of the most remarkable aspects of this cruise was the weather. We were fortunate to have just about perfect weather for the whole four months aboard the Silver Whisper. This cruise was marked by flat seas and fair winds. That alone can have a significant impact on the overall enjoyment of a cruise.
PORTS
We were pleased to explore a number of new ports on this cruise as well as meet up with friends along the way. We enjoyed so many memorable moments both ashore and onboard.
Following are just a few of the many adventures from our trip as told in photos.
Polynesia: After seven days at sea we woke up, looked out the window and there was a wall of green. In the middle of nowhere, far from any continent, lies the beautiful group of islands known collectively as French Polynesia.
Bali: This Hindu paradise is the land of rice and temples…thousands and thousands of temples. Our Balinese guide was recommended by friends. Bina worked for Holland America Cruises for many years and has a great command of English and a nice van for touring.
At sea: It takes three days to cruise from Australia to Bali, so it is a great time to get caught up with blogs, emails and socializing.
As usual, the sea days were filled with lectures; art, language, cooking and photography classes, port briefings, exercise and fitness sessions, table tennis and swimming, parties and fine dining. Our favorite way to end each day is sitting on our balcony listening to the ocean slide past, watching the flying fish skim the waves and enjoying the star filled skies knowing that we are out to sea again!
The sense of excitement and anticipation of what each new day will bring is intoxicating and addictive.
The Maldives: Talk about culture shock! Visiting the Maldives and Seychelles is like time traveling between two different worlds. Both islands are world famous diving and fishing destinations but that is about where the similarities end. The Maldives are a very conservative Islamic country which practices Sharia Law while the Seychelles are a predominately Christian country and very secular.
Kenya: The Kenyans were so happy to see us because we were the first ship to call in two years. We did a game drive in the morning. There was a stunning array of wildlife and rare and unique flora. In the tropical rain forest we saw giraffe, velvet monkeys, wart hogs, impala, baboons, wild buffalo, antelope, lizards, white eagles and hartebeests.
Of course there are so many more stops we made from Zanzibar to Puerto Rico to Bangkok and Australia! The adventures, the people and the community we build is what keeps us coming back year after year to cruise the world.
The staff and crew on the Silver Whisper performed impeccably as did the ship for 115 days.
On the last evening of the cruise, we had a farewell party for our Cruise Specialists guests. What a great group of travelers they are. Christian Sauleau, Vice President of Silversea, and his wife Jean, joined the festivities and thanked Cruise Specialists for their loyal support.
At the end of the party we passed out the lyrics to “We’ll Meet Again” and all of us joined in singing our farewells to one another. A few tears were shed and many hugs shared as we realized the world cruise was coming to an end.
