In part 4 of our series of postcards from abroad, Cruise Specialists host Tom Mullen continues to share his voyage through Asia and soon on to the South Pacific.

Don’t miss part one in Alaska, part two in Japan and part 3 in China. After leaving China, Tom made a stop to see the famed Shangri-la, in Vietnam and Singapore before setting sail to a new adventure in Bali.

“It’s a full day today. Started very early driving past rice fields, rubber plantations toward Ho Chi Minh. There is still the Rex hotel, but newer and so nice to see the traditional style.”  The Rex Hotel was built in the early 20th century originally as a french garage and then converted in to a luxury hotel in downtown Saigon.

“Singapore is one of my favorite cities in the world. Plenty of new and old buildings. Today has been back to an old era. Lunch at Raffles fine Indian food and strong Asian tea.”  Raffles hotel opened in 1817 and gained notoriety through features in stories by Rudyard Kipling, Ernest Hemingway and Alfred Hitchcock for it’s blend of far East mystery and luxury. 

After a month of exploring Asia, Tom’s next series of adventures begin with their first stop on the way to Australia.

“Beautiful Bali island of many temples, lush greenery, plenty of local artisans. A Balinese folklore show of music and dancing to welcome the ship.”
