In an effort to help out communities in need in parts of the world we are traveling to, Cruise Specialists is excited to bring a philanthropic component to our shore excursions. Our plan is to offer one excursion on each of our Grand/World escorted voyages that provides our guests and staff the opportunity to give back to the community we are visiting.
Our most recent mission involves partnering with tour operator Micato Safaris with a donation to their “Micato Virtuoso Library Project” from the entire staff at both of our Cruise Specialist offices. Their project involves building two libraries and filling them with books in one of Africa’s most impoverished slums.
Micato’s goal for the project is to provide 500 books for the two libraries – each inscribed with a special message to an African child. Each Cruise Specialists staff member is in the process of personally inscribing a bookplate for a new book to be placed in the libraries.
“Every child should have the access and means to be able to read, and helping to fill a library with books is a wonderful cause to support,” said Greg Nacco, vice president of Cruise Specialists. “It makes me happy and proud to work for a company which also believes in this as well!”
The two new libraries in Africa will be built for:
• 1,900 students of an impoverished government school in the Mukuru slum
• Micato AmericaShare Harambee Community Center for all Mukuru residents
