AmaWaterways welcomed its newest ship, the into the fleet yesterday in a ceremony in the town of Vilshofen, Germany. The 170-guest AmaViola, like sister AmaStella, has been purpose-built to cater to multi-generational families travelling together; a rarity in the world of river cruising, where many lines cater to a demographic made up largely of retirees.
“The debut of our brand new AmaViola builds on the momentum and tremendous feedback we have already seen since launching our AmaStella in March,” said Kristin Karst, Executive Vice President and Co-owner of AmaWaterways. “Part of what makes AmaWaterways so unique to the industry is our careful pace in developing fresh design concepts on the rivers. It is this mindset that truly allows our team to deliver innovative features for our guests, and they will see this firsthand with the AmaViola.”
Family-friendly features aboard the new AmaViola include six sets of connecting staterooms that feature internal doors linking the two cabins together. These can accommodate families of up to five, and one stateroom in this set has a convertible sofa bed that sleeps one guest.
In addition, four suites are outfitted with convertible sofa beds that can accommodate families of up to four per suite.
In keeping with the AmaWaterways philosophy of modern luxury and choice, AmaViola will feature a larger number of the line’s twin-balcony staterooms that have both French and full step-out balconies. In addition, the ship’s fitness center and spa have been expanded over previous designs.
AmaViola will also boast the line’s signature Chef’s Table specialty restaurant in addition to the main dining room. Complimentary unlimited wine, beer and soft drinks are available with lunch and dinner; and complimentary bottled water is provided daily in all staterooms. A swim-up bar is located up on the Sun Deck, as part of the ship’s heated pool, while guests can stay connected to the outside world by using the ship’s Entertainment-on-Demand system which provides complimentary internet access. Wi-Fi access is also available.
The new family-friendly features aboard AmaViola will be utilised this year in collaboration with Adventures by Disney, which will use the new ship on several departures this year. These family-themed voyages are offered during the summer and winter months, in conjunction with times that most school children have holidays. Guests looking for an even greater immersion into local culture can add a 3-day/2-night pre- or post-stay experience in Prague, Czech Republic. Onboard activities include family karaoke, movie nights for Junior Adventurers, a magic show, cooking classes, games, piano music and other exciting entertainment geared towards guests of all ages.
When she’s not sailing specifically for Adventures by Disney, AmaViola makes a great choice for couples and extended adult families travelling together. Her christening is also another sign that AmaWaterways is embracing multi-generational river cruising with open arms, further adding dimension to the line’s already splendid river cruise offerings.
